Interface 2007 - 2008
Liz Atkin's 'Interface' series worked with flatbed scanners, using her face to explore and bridge the contention between the portrait and the anti-portrait. It was a deliberately repetitive and compulsive process, with more than 1800 images in the series. Each image was the result of a 15 second performance on the glass of the scanner, exploring the distortion and disruption of representation. Hints of violence in the self-destruction of facial identity confront the viewer.
